Hadith of the Prophet Speaking to the Dead of the Quraish at the well of Badr

Praise be to Allah,

Muhammad ibn Abu ‘Adiyy narrated to us from Humayd [at-Taweel] from Anas ibn Maalik who said,

“When the Muslims heard the Prophet (PBUH) calling aloud at the edge of the dry well of Badr, the names of the dead, ‘0 Abu Jahl, 0 (Utbah ibn Rabeeah, 0 Shaybah ibn Rabeeah, 0 Umayyah ibn Khalaf, have you now found that what your Lord has promised you to be true? As for me, I have found what my Lord promised me to be true. His companions asked, ‘Messenger of Allah, how can you speak to the corpses?’ He replied, ‘They can indeed hear me as well as you can, but they cannot reply [to my question].”‘
